Joseph Boggs Beale (1841-1926 ); Philadelphia born artist, illustrator for Harper's, Frank Leslie's Weekly and the Daily Graphic. He enlisted in the 33rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserves - and sent sketches of the battles to illustrated news publications. He also created designs for Magic Lanterns for the firm Caspar Briggs & Sons. More than likely this series of Civil War scenes were created for the Magic Lantern slides.
