Lot Description

Three needlework samplers, three needlework cases and a homespun cover new jersey, first half 19th century

The first sampler, "Eliza Ann Burtis's work wrought in the 9th year of her age, 1814," with a floral border enclosing rows of alphabet and inscription with bird, flower and bowl of fruit devices; the second, worked with alphabet and spot devices; and the third, with house on hillock with birds, trees, flowers with the initials "AM," all unframed; together with a tulip-shaped leather and silk pincushion and needlecase, a rectangular silk needlework case, a box form needlework case, and a blue and white woven duvet.
