Pair of French enamel plaques dated 1881, paul-louis alfred serre for ferdinand barbedienne (french 1810-1892)
Rectangular, one allegorical of Navigation depicting a maiden with breasts exposed, on a ship at sea with an attendant putto, the other allegorical of Poetry, depicting a maiden in an archway holding a book, a putto holds a lit lamp and points to a book in her hand, both signed "A. Serre inv.1881, F. Barbedienne", within original gilt bronze frames, mounted cloth mats with anthemion mounts, in giltwood frames.
