(Anti-Slavery Movement.) File of Manuscripts & C: Relating primarily to the editors of the abolitionist newspaper "The Independant" - Joseph P. Thompson, Leonard Bacon & supporter Seth B. Hunt. Includes approx. 130 autograph letters signed., c1845-75. Mostly from Thompson to Bacon, a few from Bacon to Thompson. Also ms material, incl. anti-slavery letters by Beth B. Hunt. Diaries in the hand of Elizabeth Coil Gilman Thompson ( Joseph P's wife) & other related women. Lot also includes 1/2 plate ambrotype portrait of Joseph Parrish Thompson (c1860) in rough case & carte de visite portrait of his father Isaac Thompson. Also material relating to J.P. Thompson's son W. Gilman Thompson, M.D. The July 28, 1853 issue of the Independant.
