Lot Description
ALFRED STIEGLITZ (AMERICAN 1864-1946) CAMERA WORK NO. 12, 1905
With eleven total prints, including ten photogravures on Japan tissue and one half-tone on original tissue mount. Seven photogravures and one halftone by Alfred Stieglitz, including: "Going to the Start", "Spring", "Nearing Land", "Katherine", "Miss Sophie Raab", "Ploughing", "Gossip-Katwyk" & "Horses". Three photogravures by Benedict F. Herzog, including: "Angela", "The Tale of Isolde" & "Marcella".
NOTE:
In a special insert in No. 12, Stieglitz points out these photogravures on tissue were chosen to hang in the 1904 exhibition of the Societe L'Effort in Brussels. These photogravures are all from original negatives and printed on the Japan tissue which was believed to better hold the tonal qualitites of the original.
