Lot Description

Chippendale walnut tall case clock. john wood, jr. (1736-1793) philadelphia, 1768

Molded double scrolled cornice with large carved floral rosettes, urn and spire finials with spiral carved tops, arched door enclosing brass and steel face raised circular panel inscribed "John Wood, Philadelphia," Roman numeral chapter ring and subsidiary seconds ring, flanked by tapering turned colunettes, tombstone arched and lip molded waist door flanked by fluted quarter columns conforming plinth with fluted corner columns, molded and shaped panel, ogee bracket feet. Accompanied by original receipt, "Mr. Richard Topliss bought of Jn Wood 1768 Feb. 23 an arched eight day long case. Received payment for the above clock in full by order of Joh.............Blacksmith Clock L 13/ Case L 6.7.6 L. 19.7.6" framed inside case.
