Lot Description

English mourning locket and portrait miniature of a gentleman early 19th century

The oval portrait on ivory depicting a gentleman with dark hair wearing a black coat and cravat; the reverse centered by a memorial with inscription "ER/ Born 10 March 1780/ Married 18 April 1801/ Died 9 June 1801/ alas!!! adieu./AR/ her infant/ Brother died/ August 1801", with two hair locks tied with seed pearls, in an enameled border inscribed "Affection Weeps, Heaven Rejoices/ Not Lost But Gone Before To Bless".
