The piece is first recorded in 1944 with the London dealer Blairman and Sons, with the upper doors and frieze drawer having carved decoration which has been removed as it was believed to have been a 19th century addition. A similar example to the present model was with Moss Harris & Sons (cf. Edwards and Jourdain, op. cit. p.130, fig. 80), and a related piece was recorded in the Goldschmidt collection at Kenfield House, Cheshire (cf. M. Harris, 'A Catalogue and Index of Old Furniture and Works of Decorative Art,' part II, p. 170, illus.). A further example sold Christie's, London, July 7th, 1994, lot 99.
