Engravings include simple floral scroll, incised line borders, rosette screws, and starbursts to frame and parts. Frame is also engraved with game scenes including a long-billed dowitcher to left side and a mallard duck to right side. Markings include LEFEVER ARMS CO. stamped to both sides of frame, and Patented 1872/ 78. 80. 85. 86. 87. to bottom of frame. Serial number 40758 is marked to lower tang, under left barrel, and to right side of water table. Barrel and water table are also marked with an F following the serial number, indicating grade of quality and finish.
