Lot Description

Springfield Model 1884 Carbine with 1890 Upgrades
Indian Wars

.45-70 Government. 22" barrel. SN: 343704 (mfg. ca1886-87). Blued and color casehardened finish, walnut stock. Single shot metallic cartridge breechloading cavalry carbine. Lock reads U.S./SPRINGFIELD with a {Spread-Winged Eagle} forward of the hammer and US/MODEL/1884 on the breech block. Left breech with V/P/{Eagle Head}/P proof marks. No cartouche or Circle-P are visible on the stock. Features include a low arch breech, three-click tumbler, two-piece triggerguard, grooved trigger with checkered tip, trapdoor in but for cleaning rods (not present) and a sling bar and ring on the reverse of the stock. Sights include the 1884 Buffington adjustable rear sight and a base and blade front sight. 1890 upgrades include the sight protecting barrel band and the front sight hood.
