Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle
Indian Wars

.45-70. 32.625" barrel. SN: 401485 (Mfg. ca1888). Heavily oxidized attic brown patina, full-length American walnut stock. Single shot breechloading metallic cartridge military rifle with the 1884 Buffington rear sight and combination base and blade front sight/bayonet lug. Standard lock and breech block markings, including MODEL 1884 with standard proofs at breech. A weak SWP/1887 cartouche is present on the counterpane. Features include low arch breech, three-click tumbler, grooved trigger with checkered tip, solid butt without implement compartment. Retains both sling swivels and the the cleaning rod.
