Lot Description
** 20th Century German Drilling Gun by Gustav Diem of Frankfurt
16ga./9mm. 27.5" barrels. SN: 140583. Blued metal finish to barrels and white finish to lock and frame fittings, possibly case hardened at some point. Two piece wood stock has checkering to semi pistol grip and Schnabel forearm, as well as cheek piece to left side and horn grip cap with ivory spacer. Break action over/under drilling rifle with flip up notch rear sight, blade front sight, and matted rib with claw mounts for scope on top of barrel. Item features double triggers, double percussion hammers, double sling swivels, and an extractor. Both sides of frame are engraved with stag game scenes surrounded by blackleaf scroll with cross-hatched relief background. Lock plates are engraved with a boar on left side and deer to right side, both surrounded by blackleaf scroll and also with cross-hatched relief backing. Other engravings include fish fin borders, rosette screws, stippled backing around fences, and neoclassical motifs to stock fittings. Barrel markings include GUSTAV DIEM to right side and FRANKFURT A.M. to right side, along with Krupp Stahl marks and imperial proofs.
