Lot Description
US Model 1833 Dragoon Saber
Mexican American War
34" single-edged spearpoint quill back blade with rounded spine, 1.125" wide at ricasso. 39.75" in overall length. 5" hilt with two-branch brass guard and knucklebow, grooved leather covered wood grip with seven wraps of twisted wire. Forward swept disc shaped quillon inspected with a TW on the reverse, and HKC/ORD on the lower rear face. Blade is dry needle etched in four lines on the obverse N.P. Ames/Cutler/Springfield/1837 and is also inspected with a TW. The reverse is similarly etched United States over a splay of laurels. The sword is accompanied by its browned steel scabbard that has been painted black with no visible inspection on the drag.
