Weigand established his company, Weigand Combat Handguns, in 1982, and continued to offer his services as a pistol smith for more than thirty years. In that time, he received the "Pistolsmith of the Year" award issued by the American Pistolsmiths Guild. He would serve as president of that organization from the year 2000 to 2002.
