Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 35 assorted images including paper, tintype, ambrotype, and daguerreotype portraits.

Quarter plate daguerreotype of a group of 3 teenagers or young adults, likely siblings. The girl, seated front and center, wears a lightly red and blue tinted dress and holds a red and gold tinted book in her hand. (Spotting, scratching, weeping, spotting to mat, no preserver; unsealed.) Housed in a leatherette case with scrap of paper featuring inscribed portion of a family tree. -- Sixth plate daguerreotype bust portrait of an older gentleman wearing a double-breasted coat. (Heavy tarnishing to edges, spotting, no preserver; resealed 1997.) Housed in a pressed paper case. Mat stamped "INSLEY / 122 BROADWAY." -- A pair of half plate hand-colored paper portraits matted and housed in matching leatherette cases (surface wear). -- And 31 others, including sixth and ninth plate daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes. Some without cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, 35 assorted portraits of men, women, and children.
