Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 22 assorted images of boys and fresh-faced young men.

Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a teenaged boy with hair perfectly combed into a swoop above either cheekbone and holding a large book with fore-edge design in his hands. (Spotting, tarnishing, some scratching/wiping; resealed.) Housed in a leatherette case. -- Sixth plate ambrotype portrait of a young man with long hair, crossed arms, and a resolute expression. He wears a ring on one of his pinky fingers. (Some spotting, abrading to image; unsealed.) Housed in a leatherette case. Satin pad inscribed "March.1.1847." -- Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a young gentleman with long hair, posed with his hand on a book that rests atop the table next to him. The table's cloth is hand-tinted blue. (Tarnishing to edges, some spotting to plate, spotting to mat, no preserver; resealed.) Housed in a fully separated leatherette case. Satin pad inscribed "March.1.1847." -- And 19 others, including one quarter plate ruby ambrotype (loose), 6 sixth plate daguerreotypes, 4 sixth plate ambrotypes, 2 sixth plate tintypes, one ninth plate daguerreotype, 4 ninth plate ambrotypes, and one ninth plate tintype. Some without cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, 22 assorted daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes featuring young boys and men.
