A group of 3 books associated with enslavement, secession, and the war, comprising:

BUTTERFIELD, Daniel. Camp and Outpost Duty for Infantry. New York: Harper & Brothers, Publishers, 1863. Inscribed on interior cover "Major Carey / 12 Ohio Vol Inft" and "E.M. Carey."

HDS indicates that Major Edward M. Carey, enlisted on 6/4/1861 and was commissioned into Field & Staff Ohio 12th Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted to Major on 4/18/1862 and was wounded 9/14/1862 at South Mountain, Maryland.

[With:] WOLFE, Saml. M. Helper's Impending Crisis Dissected. Philadelphia: J.T. Lloyd, Agt., 1860.

[Also with:] Tintype of a young soldier. Image originally accompanied the Camp & Outpost Duty for Infantry book but does not appear to be Major Edward M. Carey who was 33 years old at the time of his enlistment.
