BUTTERFIELD, Daniel. Camp and Outpost Duty for Infantry. New York: Harper & Brothers, Publishers, 1863. Inscribed on interior cover "Major Carey / 12 Ohio Vol Inft" and "E.M. Carey."
HDS indicates that Major Edward M. Carey, enlisted on 6/4/1861 and was commissioned into Field & Staff Ohio 12th Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted to Major on 4/18/1862 and was wounded 9/14/1862 at South Mountain, Maryland.
