Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR - ANTIETAM - GETTYSBURG]. A group of 12 CDVs of Union generals and officers who saw action at Antietam or Gettysburg, incl. Meade, Cuyler, Williams, Franklin, & Burnside.


John Meck Cuyler, senior medical officer at Fort Monroe, notable for his service at the II Corps camp during Gettysburg. Autographed below image, "Jno. M. Cuyler, U.S.A." Philadelphia, PA: M.P. Together, 12 CDVs of Union generals and officers who saw action in several Civil War battles, most notably Antietam and Gettysburg. Condition generally good. Several with toning, trimmed edges, and residue/wear to versos.

Provenance: Acquired from the great grandson of Union General Edward Griffin Beckwith (1818-1881) (consignor relates). Beckwith commanded the defenses of New Orleans from August 1863 - January 1864, after the fall of New Orleans in 1862.
