Lot Description
[KING, Martin Luther, Jr. (1929-1968)]. A group of 3 press photographs documenting Dr. King's funeral, incl. Coretta Scott King and her four children viewing the body of the slain civil rights leader. Atlanta, GA, 12 April 1968.
3 silver gelatin photographs, each approx. 8 x 10 in. or smaller (light toning and edge/corner wear). Each with caption in negative and ink stamps on verso.
Scenes/captions include: "Mrs. Martin Luther King Jr. and her four children view the body of Dr. Martin Luther King, slain civil rights leader, today in Atlanta. The children are (from left) Yolanda, 12, Bernice, 5, Martin III, 11, and Dexter, 7." -- "Where King Will Rest. Charles Arnold touches up the lettering which was stenciled on the crypt of Dr. Martin Luther King..." -- "Dr. King's Caisson. A brace of plow mules pulls the farm wagon bearing the mahogany casket of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. along its funeral procession route in Atlanta today."
