Lot Description
[POST-RECONSTRUCTION]. The South has United to make a Grand Exposition of Southern Products , in the Capital City of the Old North State Raleigh, NC, and Invites the World to View the Great Display. Baltimore, MD: A. Hoen & Co, 1891.
Prohibitively rare Post- Reconstruction poster.
20 1/2 x 29 1/4 in. (sight) lithograph, framed, 22 1/2 x 31 1/2 in. (toning, fold lines throughout with some small areas of separation near folds, some staining to margins, unexamined outside frame; some chipping to frame).
An exceedingly rare lithograph issued by the Southern Inter-State Immigration Bureau, promoting the Grand Exposition of Southern Products held in Raleigh, NC, from 1 October to 1 December 1891. beautifully illustrated with southern agricultural products, including tobacco, cotton, sugar, peanuts, rice, fruits, and vegetables. A description of the exhibition's featured highlights are listed, including "the Exhibit made by the Colored People from each of the Southern States, separate and distinct from the Exhibit of White People, in separate Buildings, and controlled by Commissioners appointed and sustained by the Colored People of several Southern States." Furthermore, it is noted that the "Northern States will make a display of Manufactured Goods and Machinery."
