Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Late war enlisted Navy hat.
12 x 11 in. Union Navy pattern flat hat composed of dark Navy Blue wool with khaki cotton lined sweatband and applied white ten-pointed star stitched to the crown with cut fringe (Some loose threads to the interior, one broken seam on the crown, and some moth holes along the bottom.)
Item is without visible manufacturer mark, and is stitched together with the top combined in spider web pattern. Stitching is consistent with machine stitching and most likely hand stitched appliance to the crown. Presence of machine stitching suggests this hat may have been produced after the conclusion of the Civil War.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
