Lot Description
Louis XV gilt bronze mounted tulipwood encoignure attributed to charles cressent (maître 1720)
Of serpentine outline, the mottled white marble top over two doors centered by gilt bronze classical figures and marked at the corners with foliate gilt bronze mounts, above a shaped apron and block feet with further gilt bronze mounts. Note: Charles Cressent specialized in veneered and marquetry pieces and was particularly noteworthy for his bold gilt-bronze mounts. His furniture is typically unsigned, however a large body of work has been attributed to his workshop. Comparable pieces can be seen in Danielle O. Kisluk-Grosheide, Furniture in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, pgs. 114-116.
