Lot Description
.44 Special. 5" barrel length. SN: 23936. Blued metal finish with casehardened hammer and trigger mounting checkered walnut Smith & Wesson medallion grips. Double action hand ejector revolver with six-shot cylinder and mounting topstrap notch and semi-circular front blade sights. Item features a five screw frame and pinned barrel, and shows matching serial numbers on the rear cylinder, inside surface of the star extractor, and on the underside of the barrel. Markings include the Smith & Wesson trademark on the left frame, and MADE IN U.S.A. on the right. Barrel marks read SMITH & WESSON to left barrel, 44 S&W SPECIAL CTG to the right, and the two-line address and patent mark to the top of the barrel. Address mark reads SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A./PATENTED DEC. 17. 1901. FEB. 6. 1906. SEPT. 14 1909. Interior frame shows an assembly number of 25522, and an {Eagle Head/S2}, indicating the frame was likely inspected for installation in a Model 1917, but later completed in the present model. Revolver features a lanyard loop to the butt. Grip panels have star marks struck into each butt indicating they are replacements. A boxed R-S marking on the grip frame indicates the item was factory refinished.
