Lot Description

**Josef Winkler 20 Gauge and .22 WMR Drilling Rifle Custom Built by Quaile & Donaldson

.22 WMR/20 Gauge. 26.5" barrel length. SN: 422349. 3" chamber length. Full chokes. Blued metal finish to barrels and small parts with gray frame set in a walnut semi-pistol grip stock with beavertail forend, black synthetic grips, and featuring bordered multipoint checkering to the wrist and forend. Triple barrel Drilling pattern hammerless combination gun with engraved sideplates and extractors. Barrels are engraved with the maker marking below the handguard JOSEF-WINKLER-FERLACH-MADE IN AUSTRIA with both barrels displaying B'O'HLER-BLITZ-STAHL followed by the gauge and chamber length markings. Full length matted barrel rib is engraved CUSTOM BUILT BY QUAILE & DONALDSON and features a dovetailed rear notch and front blade sights. The Austrian nitro firing proof NPF is visible on the barrel flats and watertables followed by the Austrian {Eagle} proof marking. The date code 4121-62 on the barrels and watertables indicates this firearm was proof tested in 1962. Left sideplate is engraved with a scene of a Quail emerging from the brush below the watertable while a male pheasant engages in courtship ritual with a female below the lever. Right sideplate engraved with a fox chasing a hare along the sideplate as two quail scatter. The barrel fences, lower frame, triggerguard, and rear edges of the barrels show spiral scroll engraving with a {Golden Quail} on the pistol grip cap. The interior surface of the forend iron is jeweled.
