The action bar shows the model marking MODEL 1897/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S. PAT. OFF. with Winchester monogram proof marking on the top of the barrel and upper left cylinder. Address marking to barrel includes patent dates up to 1910 followed by the 12 GA. caliber marking. Left side of the bayonet lug is marked PAT. JAN. 15 & MAR. 19. 1918. Serial number falls outside of the range for World War I and World War II trench guns, and the firearm displays no martial markings of any kind. Comes with a pattern of 1907 sling.
