World War I

.45 ACP. 5.5" barrel length. SN: X1436. Green Parkerized metal finish and checkered walnut Smith & Wesson medallion grips. Lanyard loop to butt, with polished hammer and trigger, as well as US inspection and property marks. Double-action hand ejector revolver on Smith & Wesson five screw frame. Item shows standard address mark to top of barrel. Underside of barrel marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". Left upper frame shows {Ordnance Bomb} logo with {Eagle}/59 mark to rear triggerguard. Rear cylinder marked {Eagle}/S24. Butt is marked U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917. Serial numbers do not match, and barrel lacks serial number marking. Item originally manufactured with a blued finish. Revolvers of this pattern were refinished during World War II. X prefix serial numbers were applied to firearms that were stolen from and later recovered by the government. Number ranges for 1911 pattern pistols so refurbished can be found in Charles W. Clawson's, Collector's Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols.
