Lot Description
Fine and large Berlin topographical porcelain plaque berlin from the kreuzberg, circa 1830
Finely painted panoramic view overlooking Victoria Park to the city, on the left Schinkel's Monument to the Wars of Liberation, in a carved giltwood and gesso frame.
NOTE: Friedrich Wilhelm III commissioned the monument to be erected in Kreuzberg, the highest point in Berlin, to commemorate Prussian soldiers who fought to expel Napoleon's forces in 1815. The large neo-Gothic cast-iron monument was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and was completed in 1821.
