Lot Description

Empire ormolu and patinated bronze mounted mahogany commode circa 1810, stamped chapius

The rectangular top fitted with brass slides to accommodate a rectangular mirror plate supported by rectangular supports, above a compartmentalized drawer and one drawer above six small drawers flanked by female terms, on block feet. NOTE: The stamp CHAPUIS, was either executed by the Parisian ebeniste Claude Chapuis who was active from 1797 until at least 1818, or by his celebrated Brussels counterpart Jean-Joseph Chapuis (1765-1864). Both employed a stamp without their initials.
