Autograph Letter Signed. Eakins, Thomas. Philadelphia, 1729 Mount Vernon [St.], January 25, [18]79. 1 p., 8vo; minor creasing along folds, but crisp and clean. With orig. addressed envelope to James D. Smillie (American engraver and etcher, among the founders of The American Society of Painters & Watercolor): "I send you for your illustrated catalogue a sketch of my water color 'A Quiet Moment.' I asked my pupil Miss MacDowell [Susan H. MacDowell, whom Eakins married in 1881] to make a sketch of the watercolor, 'waiting for her money'."
