Lot Description

[AMERICANA]. A group of approximately 31 works related to finances, law, military, politics, and taxes, including: 


1) [REVOLUTIONARY WAR]. WHITTING, Abel. Autograph letter signed ("Abel Whitting") as a soldier to his mother and father. Cambridge, MA, 17 March? 1776. 1 page, 3 3/4 x 8 1/2-in. Regarding his health as he served in Capt. Joseph Soper's Company on the march to Bristol.

2) [REVOLUTIONARY WAR]. WALKER, Benjamin, Captain. Autograph document signed ("Ben Walker Capt."), as Captain of the Second New York Regiment. N.p., 26 August 1777. 1 page, 2 1/4 x 7 1/4-in. Regarding 19 1/2 pounds of sugar, 24 pounds of chocolate, and a half gallon of Rum for Colonel Livingston's Regiment.

3) PAINE, Thomas. Letter Addressed to the Addressers, on the Late Proclamation. London: H.D. Symonds and Thomas Clio Richman, 1792. 12mo. 14pp. (Lacking half-title, and advertisement at end.) Modern wrappers, uncut. FIRST EDITION, second issue.

4) PITKIN, George. Partially printed document accomplished in manuscript and signed ("Geo. Pitkin, Clerk"), as Clerk of the Superior Court to Joshua Coit. New London County, CT, 1794. 1 page, trimmed, docketed verso. Pay order for Joshua Coit for part of a bill related to James Hart, "state criminal." Coit was State Attorney for New London County, Connecticut, and served in the third, fourth, and fifth Congresses.

5) BRANAGH, Frank A. Autograph note signed ("Frank A. Branagh"), as Chief of the Bureau of Accounts and Disbursing Clerk for the Department of State to Daniel N. Morgan. Washington, 24 December 1896. 1 page, on Department of State letterhead. Regarding his request for "$100 in $5 gold pieces for the Secretary," Richard Olney, liked to give these as gifts for Christmas.
