Lot Description

American silver tankard bartholomew le roux, new york, circa 1710

Of tapered cylindrical form, the pin hinged flat domed cover with cocoon-shaped thumb piece, serrated rim engraved with foliage, the scroll handle applied at the grip with a lion couchant and cast with cherubs mask terminal; the body engraved with the Van Rensselaer coat-of-arms surmounted by a heraldic cartouche and surrounded by acanthus leaves, ribbon tied husk garlands and infants; the foot applied with a meandering wire below a stiff-leaf cut-card border, stamped twice under base.
