Rare and unusual Chinese gilt-metal, white metal, enameled and carved shell mechanical 'lotus' vases qianlong/jiaqing period
Highly unusual design, comprised of twelve gilt metal and filigree lotus petals, each hinged with a gilt metal rim, opening to reveal a cylindrical recess when lifted, operated by three mechanical bracket to base, over a detailed carved shell showing fish, foliate sprigs, Buddhistic symbols and showing signs of gilding, the ovoid body is mounted with gilt-metal collar and base, cartouches empty and enclosing enameled sprigs, lion mask handles supporting free hanging rings.
