An Unusual Fraternal Butcher's Porcelain Occupational Shaving Mug
Late 19th/Early 20th Century
identified Fenton B. Hancock and depicting a large steer flanked by Knights of Pythias imagery.
stamped CFH/GDM to underside.
Height 3 3/4 inches.
Fenton Hancock (1853-1915) was born in Virginia but had moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by 1870. U.S. Federal Census records from 1880 provide the earliest documentation of his work there as a butcher, with associated U.S. City Directories listing the address for the shop at 2028 Carpenter Street.
