A Liverpool Transfer-Printed Creamware 'Peace, Plenty, and Independence / James Madison' Pitcher
Likely Herculaneum Pottery, England, Late 18th Century
one side with medallion reading Peace, / Plenty / and / Independence surmounted by a spread-winged eagle perched on a cannon and flanked by allegorical figures of Peace and Plenty; the opposite with oval portrait of James Madison surmounted by scroll reading, James Maddison [sic] President of the United States and surrounded by interwoven oak and vine chain with names of the fifteen states.
with Seal of the United States transfer under the spout.
Height 8 inches.
