A Baseball Player's Porcelain Occupational Shaving Mug
Early 20th Century

identified to Jas. J. Meeney in gilt lettering and depicting a player in a St. Ann uniform.
signed J. Mooney to underside and stamped T&V / Limoges / France.
Height 3 5/8 inches.

Various club and congregational 'St. Ann'' baseball teams were organized in the first quarter of the twentieth century, in cities including Bristol, Pennsylvania; Buffalo, New York, Wilmington, Delaware; Baltimore, Maryland; and Jersey City, New Jersey. An article from the New Jersey Observer from January 30, 1913, notes the involvement of a James Meeney in a conclave held at the Cadillac Hotel in New York to discuss the fate of an interstate baseball league, comprised of several so-called "Fourth of July" amateur teams from the region.
