Lot Description
Two War of 1812 Gilt and Hand Painted Porcelain Portrait Vases
French, Early 19th Century
one depicting Major General William Henry Harrison (1773-1841), the other Commodore John Rodgers (1772-1838); both mounted with gilt winged figures for handles and on square faux marble painted bases, respectively incised V and K to the underside, and both identified in flowing gilt script.
the reverse of the Harrison vase with a version of the United States seal, and the Rodgers vase with a naval insignia.
Height of taller 11 x width over handles 6 1/2 inches; height of shorter 10 3/4 x width over handles 5 5/8 inches.
