A Rare Staffordshire Transfer-Print Creamware 'Hero of the Thames' William Henry Harrison Platter
Attributed to Ralph Wedgwood (English, 1766-1837), Circa 1813
with a portrait of General W.H. Harrison in uniform commemorating his military successes in the War of 1812, surrounded by chickweed border.
the underside with importer's stamp for James Tams / Philadelphia.
Length 15 3/4 inches.
David and Linda Arman note in Anglo-American Ceramics, Part I that there are only three other recorded examples of this platter with this particular border.
