Issued by the Bay Area Free South Africa Movement (BAFSAM), an anti-apartheid organization established in 1984. The group, born from demonstrations against the unloading of South African cargo from ships docked in San Francisco, began meeting regularly at East Oakland's First Universe Baptist Church and emphasized similarities between the racism and oppression in South Africa and the racism and economic oppression facing African Americans in California.
