Lot Description

Fine gilt bronze mounted onyx, marble and carved walnut mantel clock j. m. van der kemp, paris, circa 1890

The porcelain dial with Roman numerals set within an arched case carved with ribbon tied garlands and a frieze depicting a maiden surrounded by cupids amongst cloud banks surmounted by the figure of Venus standing on a shell and flanked by dolphins, the flanking onyx columns with Corinthian capitals raised on a shaped base carved with ribbon tied acanthus leaves, the front relief signed lower right with monogram VDK, the finial signed J. M. Van Der Kemp and monogram VDK on the reverse, the twin-train movement inscribed Van Der Kemp-Paris with the AD Mougin pastille.
