Contemporary Poltz-Carlsbad Style Flintlock Jaeger Rifle
John B. Derrick (American, b.1936)

.50 caliber. 31" octagonal barrel. SN: NSN. Browned metal finish. Figured walnut stock has ornate rococo carvings to butt and forearm, as well as ebony forend, a carved grotesque to comb of stock, and large drooped cheekrest on left side. Flintlock rifle with fleur-de-lis style steel notch rear sight and brass blade front sight. Item features double set triggers, sling loop and stud, and patchbox with cast brass cover. Stock features wax-cast brass fittings with ornate details depicting what appears to be various hunting scenes including deities and grotesque beasts. Includes a brown leather sling. Crafted in the style of 18th century Bohemian gunmaking family, Poltz, of Carlsbad.
