Carved Contemporary Flintlock Jaeger Rifle
John B. Derrick (American, b.1936)
.40 caliber. 32" octagonal barrel. SN: NSN. Finish left in the white. Walnut stock has ornate carvings of rococo scroll overall, with incised lines to forearm. Flintlock rifle with cast brass adjustable diopter tang sight, two leaf folding notch rear sight, and brass blade front sight. Stock is fitted with wax-cast brass fittings showing rococo style scroll intertwined with grotesque stags and other beasts, as well as stag horn lion inlay to face of cheekrest and forend carved with what appears to be a peacock. Item features a patchbox on right side, sling loop to forearm, double set triggers, and a brass sling stud to bottom edge of stock. Includes a sling.
