Carved Contemporary Flintlock Jaeger Rifle
John B. Derrick (American, b.1936)
.40 caliber. 38" octagonal barrel length. SN: NSN. Browned metal finish. Walnut stock with carved cheekrest to left side, along with extensive carved rococo scroll to grip and forearm. Flintlock rifle with hand casted brass diopter tang sight, notch rear sight, and brass blade front sight. Item features ornate and highly detailed rococo style brass fittings overall, as well as a stag horn patch box cover and small stag horn vignette fitted under heel of buttplate. Includes a brown leather sling. Item was crafted in the style of a jaeger rifle made by an anonymous gunmaker documented in Shumway's Jaeger Rifles.
