Lot Description

English Snake Buckle Belt and Sheffield Dirk
Boer Wars

Adjustable leather belt circa late 19th to early 20th century, 1.75" and currently set for a nominal waist of 32". Made of heavy leather with uniform protecting tongue behind the two-piece "Snake Buckle" that features a 1.5" long dual swan motif buckle made of silvered non-ferrous metal. Accompanying the belt is 9.75" long dirk with a 5.875" double-edged spear point blade with a prominent median ridge. The knife has a horn grip and German silver mountings with a 1.75"x.5" oval guard. The obverse ricasso is stamped in three lines: ROBERT/LINGARD/SHEFFIELD. The knife is accompanied by a German silver mounted leather scabbard that is missing the frog button from the throat.
