Lot of American 19th Century Headgear
1.) Private purchase pattern 1876 campaign hat with an 8th Cavalry badge stitched to the brow, a black vegetable dyed edge binding, and no visible maker marks. Cords appear replaced.
2.) New York National Guard cavalry officer pattern dress helmet by Ridabock & Co. Helmet is fabricated of cloth covered cork with a red silk liner and leather sweatband. Interior crown of the helmet retains the remnants of a RIDABOCK & CO. tag surrounding the tie-down for the plume. Shell mounts a two-piece US 7th Cavalry plate, and a yellow horsehair plume. Helmet shows the seams along both flanks typical of New York helmets.
3.) New York National Guard dress helmet with side seams and ventilators mounting a US 4th Infantry Regiment plate. Item features a white horsehair plume and comes with gold cords. The helmet is composed of cloth-covered cork with a leather sweatband and the tie-down surrounded by a tag reading RIDABOCK & CO./FORMERLY/BAKER & MCKENNEY/141 GRAND ST., NEW YORK. The interior of the helmet has been stamped 11 9 above a faded INSPECTOR GENERAL'S/N.Y./INSPECTED 1898.
