Lot Description
Japanese Company Grade Type 19 Dress Sword
30.75" blade length. 38" overall with scabbard and hilt. Gold washed Sentoku furnishings with wire wrapped hilt, Sakura decorated backstrap, and a knuckle bow connecting to the pommel cap. Sword is of peened tang construction with a 28" fuller and 1.5" ricasso. Scabbard is nickel plated with a single ring. Blade likewise is nickel plated along its length with a machine polished line resembling a Hamon line. Imperial Japanese swords of this pattern combined European pattern metal scabbards and unsharpened blades, reflective of the sword passing into a ceremonial role, with Japanese blade geometry.
