Bolt action rifle with adjustable tangent notch rear sight and globe blade front sight. Item features an internal box magazine, stock disc, cleaning rod, and a bayonet lug forend. Also featured is a two piece cupped steel buttplate. Markings include 7.88/dot/1941 to top of receiver, 1844/b to left side of receiver, and two {eagle}/63 marks surrounding an {eagle}/WaA63 mark on right side of receiver. Left side of receiver cutaway is marked G.33/40. Stock is marked 1844/b to bottom edge of butt, two {eagle}/63 marks to right side of butt, and what appears to be an {eagle}/63 mark to bottom of grip. Includes a brown leather sling.

Manufactured from about 1940-1942 during German occupation of Czechoslovakia, the G.33/40 rifle was designed to be a rugged carbine carried by the German Gebirgsjager (mountain troops) navigating harsh terrains. The most unique feature of this item is the two piece steel buttplate, designed to withstand unavoidable contact with mountaineering shoe nails and use as a hiking pole.
