Edo-Period Japanese Tanegashima with Tokugawa Mon
Edo Period
About .48 caliber bore. 41" octagonal barrel with bulb muzzle. Hardwood stock. Percussion converted musket with notch and blade sights. Item features a single bass barrel band around forend and silver Tokugawa mon fitted to bottom of stock wrist. Stock has engraved silver and brass fittings overall with motifs including cherry blossoms, a chrysanthemum, a dragon intertwined with clouds, cranes, and what appears to be a tiger. Barrel is inlaid with brass and possibly copper engraved with crane and bonsai tree motifs in front of breech plug, and muzzle has silver accents to ridges. Without ramrod, appears to be missing hammer screw.
