Three Fraternal Order of Owls Porcelain Shaving Mugs
Early 20th Century
bearing names S. Galkson, Elmer M. Bain, and Wilburt A. Scholl in gilt lettering.
underside of mug with three owls marked Germany to underside; underside of mug with logs inscribed Alpha in gilt.
Height of largest 3 3/4 inches.
The Order of the Owls was founded in 1904 in South Bend, Indiana by John W. Talbot. Membership consisted of men across a variety of professions whose mission focused on improving the general welfare of members and their families.
According to U.S. Federal Census returns, Elmer Bain (1873-1942) owned a poultry farm in Union, Indiana. He and his wife, Ida, had two sons.
