Lot Description
A Porcelain Shaving Mug Depicting a Tandem Bicycle, Possibly Belonging to Charles and Anna Kohlmeyer
Late 19th Century
with the name Charles Kohlmeyer in gilt lettering in a scroll, flanked by two cherubs and centered with a depiction of a man and a woman riding a tandem bicycle.
underside marked T&V Limoges France.
Height 3 1/2 inches.
U.S. Federal Census returns record a Charles Kohlmeyer (1869-1927) as a resident of Norwalk, Huron County, Ohio. Kohlmeyer worked as a butcher at a meat market and married Anna Bailey (1869-1930) in 1892. The couple had two children together, Florence and Holly. Another Charles Kohlmeyer is documented as a resident of Missouri around the same time, but his marriage unfortunately ended in divorce, at odds with the idyllic courtship pictured here.
Property from the Collection of James Carpenter, Montague, New Jersey
