August Kern Barber Supply Co., Saint Louis, Missouri, Late 19th Century
with Theo. Ricks written in gilt lettering above an image of a miner with a helmet, pick axe, and shovel, with additional text reading 8 Hours, 1898.
underside marked with Kern Barber Supply logo.
Height 3 7/8 inches.
The inscription refers to the establishment of the eight-hour workday, officially implemented for the United Mine Workers on April 1, 1898, after a yearlong period of strike.
